In Athens

Hello Everyone,
Well it seems a little silly at this point to use this blog. To say that having a blog during this trip and doing regular contributions to it has been challenging for lack of impolite words. I did get an opportunity to see that a few of you have baled me out by communicating to others and it is very appreciated by me. I do plan on putting more images and video on this site so that others can view them. I also plan on putting together the traditional trip DVD.
I was able to post what text I had to the site last nite before my computer died. I also uploaded some sample pics of places we've been. Other than the disappointing blog this trip has been fantastic...maybe one of our best ever. The sites, the weather, the people directly and indirectly associated with this tour have all worked for one fun trip.
The consensus is that yesterday's visit to Delphi was the highlight of the trip. The little town's cultural and historical significance to Western Civilization. The ruins and the museum was inspiring. Many of us during the last couple of days in Greece have really enjoyed the food. Personally, I have never eaten as much even if combined my dining experiences during Thanksgiving and Christmas combined! I am now a huge fan of Greek food. So parents if you are worried about your children not eating enought is not a problem on this leg.
Today we drove the 3 hr. drive from Delphi to Athens. The countryside drive was beautiful and unique with it's rolling hills, farms and agriculture.
I think with the remaining time I have I'll attempt to load more photos for you to view. If you don't see any on this blog then you know I ran to another problem...upload speed.
Take care and thanks again for your patience.
Scott

  1. Scott, the blog was a great idea. You need a helper, that is all. I'm sure it is tiring after touring all day and they night duties. I appreciate any scrap of info (from anyone). Thanks so much!

  2. Ditto, Scott------The blog is a GREAT IDEA! Next trip, line up at least 2 helpers with back-up computers. It is too much work to be a chaperone AND historian. Perhaps three of the parents could volunteer? If I go, I will volunteer! I am anxious to see your pix after you all return.
Just to let the rest of you know, Page called this morning about 10:15 AST which would have been 5:00 this afternoon in Athens. She said the food was incredible! She thinks she has gained weight, but was emphatic that she was going to continue eating the Greek food! She had baklava and loved it ---- much better than the baklava she has had here. She said it was sunny and warm ---- beautiful. Said they had driven much of the day and were in Athens; the hotel was "scary!" ---- Well the neighborhood, anyway. But we all knew that going in about this particular hotel ---- great property, but not so great location (do I sound like HGTV?). She was looking forward to the Acropolis and the Parthenon tomorrow, which, of course is NOW (It is about 8:30 AM in Greece as I write this.) She was still on the hunt for last minute presents for the homebound and, I think, beginning to be interested in being homeward bound herself. She did mention that they would have a long layover in SEA. I haven't looked at the return itinerary except to know that it will be very late Monday night when they arrive ANC. Again----I'll post if I hear more.

  3. Though this blog didn't work out the way you imagined, it has been a wonderful resource for us here at home. Mellomom has been so great to keep us informed with Page's calls and since I haven't heard from Sarah it has been comforting to know that all is well and to get a glimpse of her in your video is wonderful. Please keep this idea for future trips. Thanks!

  4. When I talked to Page yesterday, I did ask her to ask Sarah and Sophie to call home ---- I made it clear this was NOT an EMERGENCY request! She said she thought Sarah had attempted email, but not been successful. Page did not call today. At the time of this writing, they should be either boarding or within 15 minutes of doing so. With a 6:00 (-ish) AM take off time, they probably had to be at the airport by 4:00 or even earlier ---- with bus time and prep time, they were likely up by 3:00 AM ! ! ! I bet they will all be sleeping on the plane! As I used to tell Page when she was little, "the plane flies faster if you go to sleep!" They do have a 6 hour layover in SEA. I wouldn't be surprised if Page calls then. If so, I'll do one last posting from work tomorrow. Then ---- hope to meet some of you at the airport tomorrow night!
